File Sharing

All about The Smiths' music, gigs, stories, anything.

Ok, I've set up a GMail account for this forum, and have sent a couple of Smiths tracks to it. The idea is that it's a very easy way to share rare Smiths stuff. Feel free to send bootlegs and things like that there, I think it's realtively hassle free.

To access the GMail account, go to http://gmail.google.com

The username is 'strangewaysforum', the password is 'morrisseymarr'.

To send a track there, email 'strangewaysforum@gmail.com'

So far I haven't put any album tracks on there, only rare/session stuff as it's all I have on my PC. I realise a lot of people will have a lot of the songs but it's a good way of getting peoples Smiths collections full.

When you go on the account, in the Drafts section you will see the list of files currently available.

Hope that makes sense, just say if it doesn't.

If it's Windows Media Player, I have no idea whether it can be done. I use iTunes.

I had to contain my excitement for this great new feature until I was sure I could work it myself. I've successfully sent a little video I know you guys will enjoy (if you haven't seen it circulating around already). Miserableliar will really enjoy this!

Uh, is it just for music files? I was quick to send this before considering what the gmail account was to be used for. Image

As for sending files Billy, you should just be able to send it as an attachment from the folder your music is in, assuming it is in your hard drive.

Thanks elko! Image
(So, I'm considered junk mail, eh? Image )

Never! I have no idea why that happened, but there you go.

I intended it to be used mainly for Smiths tracks, but now I think about it there's no reason for it not to be used for anything.

BTW, if anyone wants a GMail account, I have literally hundreds of invites.

Ha! So at the mo, I'm trying to send an mp3 of Reel for rubygirl. It's taking long, I've stopped and resent it, it's still in limbo. I knew it was too easy!

The bigger the file, the longer it will take.

I use a little program called GMail Drive, which adds the GMail acount as another drive on the My Computer screen, meaning you just drag the files into there.

Bit of hassle maybe but seeing as I need to mvoe music about all the time I find it's worth it.

You and your dirty mind. I think it's something to do with drums - I haven't got round to watching it yet.

Thank you anyway, Still_ill - very kind of you!

Elko, what a great idea! Very thoughtful of you indeed.

And Billy, I also think sending music files as attachments is quite easy - well, it might take some time. If they are on your hard drive, you should only attach them to your message. If you listen to them from a CD, you should extract them first and if they are in a wav. format, you'd better convert them to some other format (like mp3), çause wav. files are enourmous. For these purposes I personally prefer to use the program Easy CD-extractor, it is indeed very easy to operate and has a lot of functions. I will in fact e-mail it to the account set up by Elko today, if anyone would like to give it a try.
