Hey, GA! Just noticed: 'Spread Your Wings'-Queen. Good call. John Deacon, unsung hero of British songwriting!

I was a huge Queen fan in my youth. For someone who couldn't sing, Deacon didn't half pen some belting tunes.

Yeah, he really is! I always liked him more than Roger Taylor, he annoys me slightly for some reason, but I'm not sure why...

Oh, yes: "I'm In Love With My Car".

That'll be it.

Oh, ask me why and I'll spit in your eye
But we cannot cling to the old dreams anymore
No, we cannot cling to those dreams
Does the body rule the mind or does the mind rule the body?
I dunno...
Under the iron bridge we kissed
And although I ended up with sore lips
It just wasn't like the old days anymore
No, it wasn't like those days

You don't like that one? I think it's good! (Although maybe only because I'M in love with my car!!)

Have you heard 'Queen', their first album from 1973?

Noooo, I REALLY dislike I'm In Love With My Car, I find it quite amusing that their worst song (that one) was the b-side to their masterpiece (Bo Rap).

Yeah, I do have their first album, it has some amazing songs on it (well, it would do, it's Queen), my favourites are Liar, AMAZING song, My Fairy King and Keep Yourself Alive. My ex-boyfriend always hated Liar, and he never really liked The Smiths either.

Why the hell did I ever go out with him?!

Who knows, neebour.

"I have sinned dear father, father I have sinned...."

I still love that first LP of theirs, there's some sinister, unspoken dread buried in it I could never quite put my finger on....

You MUST like Roger's song on there, surely? "Modern Times Rock And Roll"?

"Get a hairpiece on yer chest an' a ring through yer nose..."

I think the centrepiece, though, is "Son And Daughter".

Oh, and "Great King Rat"'s raging lyrics advising us: 'Don't believe all you read in the bible...', and then the album finishing up on 'Jesus', practically recounting the gospels.....Beautiful!

Yeah, I do like Modern Times Rock & Roll, I'll give Roge that one <!--emo&;)-->Image<!--endemo-->

Oh, Great King Rat is a really good song, I love first albums in general, their rawness and grittiness.

Ack, did you hear about Brian and Roger GOING ON TOUR with that guy out of Free?? Eeeek, it's horrific, it really is. Only John had the sense to stop at the right time, I really don't know why they persist on carrying on without Freddie, he practically was Queen.

Agreed. I think John was less than happy about that ATROCITY of a musical that Ben 'I'm right workin' class, me' Elton and Robert De Niro(?) seem to think is so great, but I reckon he's got to be spitting mad about the idea of the legacy of the band he worked so hard in being shown so little respect.

Oh, Noonan, I totally agree with you about the Queen musical, the music was good (obviously...), but the storyline was complete crap -- they shouldn't be spoiling the reputation of such a great group by attributing all this rubbish to them. It's a bit like what the court case did to The Smiths -- it overshadows the music, which is what people should REALLY pay attention to.

Hey reclamation, good song choices (well, the ones I've heard of...)! The Cure are great, the early stuff anyway, I'm not so keen on their last album. Loads of people on morrissey-solo hate The Cure just because of the whole Morrissey vs. Robert Smith thing, which is stupid really, you should judge a band by their music (see above).

Favourite tracks at the mo (it changes frequently) are

Scritti Politti - Overnight
A-ha - Train of Thought
The Smiths - William it was really nothing, Headmaster Ritual, The Queen is Dead
Morrissey - Sister I'm a Poet, Seasick but still docked
Busta Rhymes - Ill Vibe and Still Shining
Ralph Tresvant - Sensitivity
New Edition - Something about you
Quarashi - Bless
Cassius - La Mouche
Bernard Butler - Stay
Embrace - You've gotta say Yes

I'll generally listen to any type pf music if I appreciate the melody or the words currently my favourite album is Rank by the Smiths which I'm listening to non stop and Eminems proper first album Infinite - which is sublimely better than anything he's released since!!!

That is my truth... <!--emo&:lol:-->Image<!--endemo-->

OH, Noonan, I finally got round to listening to some Mogwai yesterday! A mate forced it onto me on MSN, and it's fantabulous. I'm sure mentioned them as being great, and they are so, err, well done. The song I've heard is Hunted By A Freak, from the Happy Songs For Happy People album. Is this album recommended (I'm going shopping tomorrow)?

Yes, they all are. That's their most recent LP.

You must get the 1st one, "Mogwai Young Team".

Allmusic says that Young Team is their finest, and they're usually a pretty good judge. The song titled 'R U Still In 2 It' doesn't sound too appetising though.
